Hi Daniel--this is a good question, often confusing even native-English speakers. LEND means you GIVE someone something to use: money, clothes, a book, a car--for a temporary period of time. BORROW means you ASK FOR something to use: again, money, clothes, a book, a car--for a temporary period of time. Example of LEND: 1. If you pay me back, I will LEND you the money. ( I will GIVE you the money.) 2. Will you please LEND me the money? (Will you please GIVE me the money?) 3. Can I LEND the money from you?--WRONG!!!!! Example of BORROW: 1. You can borrow my car if you really need it. (You can USE/TAKE my car if you you really need it.) 2. Can I please borrow your car? (Can I please use USE/TAKE your car? 3. Would you BORROW your car to me?--WRONG!!!!!!!! The past of borrow is borrowED. The past of lend is lenT. It takes a while to get used to these words, especially when you use them in questions. Lend can form "lent" in the past, which is useful for talking about when we give somebody something, e.g. "I lent him the money to buy petrol." You can also form phrases such as "I will lend you", or "Do you want me to lend it to you?" Borrow is for taking something, e.g. "Can I borrow some money for the coffee machine please?" Borrowed is the past form. Hope this helps
