How does present indicative and present progressive work in Japanese? Hello everyone, I want to know how do present indicative and present progressive phrases function in Japanese? For example: I read. (Action I do on a regular basis) I am reading. (Action I am doing in the present) Let's say in Japanese I wrote the following: 読みます. 読んで います. Is there a difference in using progressive, is using progressive in Japanese the same as using it in English? Thank you for helping, どうもありがとう.

読みます is rather to be "I will read" to our feelings. If you said 読みます, it means that you haven't read it. At least you don't read it now. The moment you read it is in future. Whether it's one second later or one year later is no matter. if you actually read it, you'd better to say 読んでいます.
