De mi punto de vista, 晚会 puede ser una gala, que es una ocasión en la que hay varios espectáculos, la gente lleva muy formal, y se pone más énfasis en hablar y ver el show. Sin embargo, 派对 viene del inglés party, y en castellano será fiesta. Sobre todo, se refiere la fiesta entre amigos, colegas,etc. Normalmente, en 派对 no hace falta ir con traje, pero a veces hay un tema para un 派对, y tendría que llevar ropa especial. Además en 派对, la gente bebe mucho, y hace mucho ruido.

晚：night/evening 会：meeting/conference 晚会：a meeting in the night [ sometimes it's a meeting between the business people with white tie /evening dress] so 晚会 is a little bit more formal than 派对 派对=party [always with firends ]

晚会 always have pre-set schedules, and usually are public, like: 跨年晚会，中秋晚会 派对 are usually more free and are held between friends, like: 生日派对，单身派对 And since 晚会 contains 晚, it always happens at night. You can also consider 晚宴丶午宴丶会 to be alternates, which are more common than 派对

“派对”只不过是英语party的音译。它更多的被用成“聚会”的意思。你去分辨“晚会”与“聚会”的区别就可以了。我反正是不会用“派对”这个词的，难听。
