秦之子
Is the word, 'lead', used correctly? Please read the sentence below at first: Eventually, another young man arrived with news he had found two girls who could speak some English, and lead us to their seats in the next carriage. My question is : is the word, 'lead', used correctly? and isn't a word, 'led', used?

Yes, this is a common error But lets look at "read" which can be the present or the past and is pronounced differently, "reed" present and "red" past So you can see why people might see that "lead" in the past would be pronounced "led", but it isn't, it is written "led" and pronounced "led" You'll find the same in "mislead" and "misled" Watch out for the nouns. The dog's lead is pronounced "leed" and allows the dog to take the owner for a walk. The lead was hammered round the chimney is pronounced "led" and is the grey soft metal

Hi, 秦之子! It should be "led." As a verb, the past tense of "to lead" is spelled "led." When spelled "lead" and read as "LEHd," it means the element 铅. I hope I've answered your question. Please let me know if I haven't.

I think you've found a typing error. Yes, it should be "led", as in "another young man arrived... and led us..."
