"to make the movie on time"
Hello English speakers.
Hope you're all fine.
The next questions from my lovely The Family Guy cartoon, please.
Lois says to Peter (both are in their car):
- Peter, take Maple Drive. Otherwise we won't make the movie on time.
1. what can mean the "to make the movie on time" expression?
Do you use that only for movies or is it more universal, like, "to make SOMETHING on time"?
(My dictionary doesn't know none of that.)
What might be other examples with this idiom expression if yes?
2. (ooops, let's leave it out ...)
3. Is it common, correct way to call out streets without articles like in the original line (take Maple Drive vs. take the Maple Drive)?
Thank you in advance.
Wish you good day.

To "make" can mean "to successfully achieve something," often "to agree to meet someone or be somewhere." It doesn't just apply to movies.
"Can you visit us next weekend?"
"Let's me check my calendar. I can't make it Saturday, but I can come Sunday."
"Look at him run to catch that bus! Is he going to make it?"
"He made it! He got on just as the doors were closing."
It thus can mean "to survive a dangerous situation."
"I heard that Casey was in Tampa during the hurricane."
"He was, but it made it out OK."

1- it means to get there on time.
Other examples- we will need to drive fast if we want to make the flight on time.
I will have to write quickly if I want to make the deadline on time. (Writing 'on time' isn't necessary here)
2- I don't really undestand the question. But you construct it 'to make something on time'
3- yes, you always say just the stretch name. You would only use an article like this- 'take the first street on the left'. But never when you are using the street's name.
