hi suneth,
I googled to give you the definition of a 'preposition':
A preposition links nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words in a sentence. The word or phrase that the preposition introduces is called the object of the preposition.
A preposition usually indicates the temporal, spatial or logical relationship of its object to the rest of the sentence as in the following examples:
The book is ON the table.
The book is BENEATH the table.
The book is leaning AGAINST the table.
The book is BESIDE the table.
She held the book OVER the table.
She read the book DURING class.
In each of the preceding sentences, a preposition locates the noun "book" in space or in time.
The different types of prepositions are:
* Time Prepositions (on, at, until, in, by, for)
* Location Prepositions (at, in, on)
* Direction Prepositions (beneath, down, up, under, over, accross, along, around, through)
* Position Preposition (next to, behind, in front of).
here, try answering these exercises by choosing the right prepositions:
1. She always gets up early (at / by / for / in / on) the morning, so she can make it to class (at / by / for / in / on) time.
2. There is no life (at / in / on) the moon, but there are many forms of life (at / in / on) the ocean floor.
3. We walked (across / along / around / over / through / under) the river looking for a way to get (across / along / around / over / through / under) it, but there was no bridge.
4. Philip waited (behind /in / in front of / on) the movie theater for Simone, so they could buy tickets and go in together.

Hi, a preposition is a word like ' at,' ' to,' ' in' , ' over' etc.
Prepositions usually come before a noun and give information about things like time, place and direction.
