You're right Cherry. In fact, this is made clear in all the above examples. So we can say: 'At the end of the film the bad guy gets shot.' Or: 'In the end, the bad guy hets shot.'

Hello Sunny, Above is a nice explanation of the difference between 'at the end' and 'in the end' and how to use ' at the end of the film'. However since you are asking about the difference between 'at and in the end of the film' ,actually you can't say ' in the end of the film'!

I agree with Xusha. I'm just going to add some examples: 'There was a discussion at the end of the film.' 'I defy anyone not to cry at the end of the film.' 'The students will be examined in all subjects at the end of term.' 'At the end of the film the bad guy gets shot.' 'Turn right at the end of the street.' In the end (= finally = eventually = at the end of a series of events) 'In the end he lost his job and had to sell his house.' 'In the end, I just got fed up with his constant complaining.' 'In the end it proved a pointless exercise.'

I’m going to start with ‘at the end’ because it's got more than one meaning. It can refer to the end of a physical location, like ‘at the end of our street’. It can also mean a metaphorical end, like ‘at the end of the story’ or ‘at the end of the movie’. This phrase can also mean the end point of a period of time. Some examples of this usage are: The teacher set some homework at the end of the lesson. I’m going on holiday at the end of the week. So, what about ‘in the end’ then? Well, it’s an adverb phrase which means ‘finally’. Here’s an example: I complained about the pizza so, in the end, I didn’t have to pay for it. We waited for an hour and, in the end, we went without her.
