Do you see learning a foreign language as a necessity? @Marie-Hélène ,whats your meaning?

Yes, absolutely necessary. Not only does speaking other languages allow you to communicate with others, but it also allows you to experience and to understand different cultures and different ways of thinking. There is also considerable evidence that language-learning or bilingualism positively affects the brain and develops areas of the brain in a way which doesn't occur in monoglots. In my experience polyglots tend to be brighter and culturally more tolerant than monoglots. I intend to bring up my future children as bilinguals.

there are many people who consider it as unnecessary, dunno why in fact!!!...but personally it is a way to be introduced to new cultures for examples by reading their writings in their own language - rather than through translation - as this is an effective way of a better understanding.
