Hello everyone, can someone tell me the difference between "carnage" and "decimate". Well, to be more specific, I would like to know if we can use "Carnage" for humans and animals or only for animals? Same for decimate. Thanks in advance

The biggest difference is that "carnage" is a noun and "decimate" is a verb, though there is also a related noun "decimation." In modern usage they are both used to describe various types of disastrous outcomes (not only for people or animals), but their latin roots are quite distinct. "Carnage" comes from a root that means "flesh", while "decimation" originally meant the death or destruction of nine tenths of a group.
