7 Internet memes that are popular only in Russia [Part 1]
The Internet does not know (or almost does not know) geographical boundaries: we communicate with people from all over the world, exchange information and culture. And of course, memes, as the most important thing in our life, jump from one country to another. However, there are some pictures that turned out to be a little more popular in our country than in the West. Or there are no analogues at all. In general, I just wanted to show you our favorite memes — I hope you like it.
1. Desperate Agutin (Отчаянный Агутин)
The screen from the show "The Voice" gained popularity on the Russian Internet in 2018, and since then it has been found in the comments every other time in any major public. Abroad, the meme was slightly modified: the singer pressed the F button, which expresses a sign of condolences on the Internet. In any case, this meme is much more common in Russia.
2. "How's that for you, Elon Musk?" (Как тебе такое, Илон Маск?)
Usually, this is how pictures are signed, on which the "Russian" ingenuity and the wonders of quick repair are visible. Now the phrase has gone to the people and is used to describe anything outstanding. By the way, Elon Musk himself knows about the existence of the meme and even considers some inventions cool :)
3. The Suffering Middle Ages (Страдающее Средневековье)
Almost no one abroad signs medieval icons and paintings with funny phrases and does not make comics out of them. What are they doing there anyway? But to be fair, the USA and European countries have their own dose of stoned mediaevalism, where modern elements of pop culture are remade into ancient tapestries.
