Vesak festival is the most important religious festival for Buddhist. The festival is celebrated in the month of May(called as Vesak month) to commemorate the birth, enlightenment and the parinibbana of our grear teacher Lord Buddha. People engage in meritorious activities in respect of these three events. On this day all the buddhist people go to the temple and devotees observe sil while others make offerings at temples. All people, young and old as well as enjoy lighting oil lamps and illuminating their home gardens with colorful lanterns. As we are children look forward to this festival with much delight. We begin to make Vesak lanterns for our school. We really enjoy lighting Vesak lanterns in our gardens. We also enjoy walking alone the streets watching illuminations and pandals. There are special programs on T. V. to commemorate this event. We also exchange Vesak cards and the most interesting item is the 'dansal' which distribute free foods.People queue up to enjoy the food given by these centres. The roads are crowded during these few days. Traffic move very slowly. Everybody is in a festival mood during this festival.
