I do not have favorite idioms, but it amazes me how one can play with idiomatic and literal meaning of a phrase and create some kind of comic effect. Although, when I try to do such things myself, the result feels to me as rather bad taste joke. Back in the day, when I still was putting some effort into practicing new words and expressions I normally would attempt doing this with every single idiom. I guess, I felt that I memorize things better this way: through making up admittedly absurd text and sharing it with someone.
