Having been an ESL tutor now for 7 years one of the most common thing I have learned about international ESL students is that so many of them feel 'limited'. And so many of them show me that they are indeed 'limited' in their English speaking. Two examples: 1. When I ask a question and the student gives a short worded sentence answer and then they look unsure of what to say next. Or they say, "That's all." 2. When a student gives the same exact answer each week to a basic question. If you respond to "How are you?" with "Fine and you?" every single time you talk to someone that's going to show how limited you are in your English vocabulary/knowledge in terms of basic casual communication skills. Are you truly always "Fine." or is that the only phrase you know within seconds that you feel confident to say? Having a list of different responses ready within seconds really shows improved fluency. English is all about variety. Because with humans, how you feel changes from day to day.

I have a part-time job starting this afternoon. It’s going to be a long day since I’ll be working straight through until tonight, but I’m going to do my best. I’m planning to go to the gym after work, so I’m making a public pledge here to make sure I don’t skip it. I actually wanted to go this morning, but I overslept a little, so I decided to go after work instead. I think I’ll be able to focus better at night since I don’t have any other plans afterward, so I’ll do my best.

Today, I woke up at 8:00 a.m. and went to school to attend my classes. I took my classes as usual and learned many things. After school, I met up with my friends, and we went to Hiratsuka. There, I enjoyed riding a jet ski with my father. It had been a long time since all of us went to the beach together, so it was a very special and meaningful time. I was happy to spend the day with my family and friends.

Today, I am going to prepare for the concert on Saturday. I am excited, so I want to make sure everything is ready. After that, I will visit the museum that I could not go to before. I hope I can learn something interesting there and enjoy the rest of my day.
