In a simple word, the vowel is pronounced with a short sound. If we want to pronounce a word with a long vowel sound, we write the letter "e" at the end of the word.
EXAMPLES:
hat - A simple word with a short "a" sound.
hate - The "e" turns the "a" into a long sound.
