EL CARNAVAL DE BARRANQUILLA

El Carnaval de Barranquilla es una de las celebraciones folclóricas más importantes de Colombia y uno de los carnavales más grandes del mundo. El carnaval tiene tradiciones que se remontan al siglo XIX. A cuatro días de la Semana Santa, Barranquilla se engalana para recibir a turistas nacionales y extranjeros que se suman a los habitantes de la ciudad para disfrutar de cuatro días de intensas fiestas. 

Durante el carnaval, las actividades normales de Barranquilla se dejan de lado y la ciudad se llena de bailes callejeros, desfiles musicales y disfraces. El Carnaval de Barranquilla incluye bailes como el paloteo español, Congo Africano, e indígenas mico y micas. También se interpretan muchos estilos de música colombiana , principalmente la cumbia , y los instrumentos incluyen tambores y conjuntos de viento. El Carnaval de Barranquilla fue proclamado Obra Maestra Cultural de la Nación por el Congreso Nacional de Colombia en 2002. También la UNESCO, en París el 7 de noviembre de 2003, lo declaró como una de las Obras Maestras del Patrimonio Oral e Inmaterial de la Humanidad.

El Carnaval comienza el sábado anterior al Miércoles de Ceniza con la Batalla de las Flores, que se considera una de las actividades principales. Luego, El Gran Desfile (La Gran Parada) el domingo y el lunes está marcado por un Festival de Orquesta con bandas caribeñas y latinas. El martes marca el final del carnaval, anunciado por el entierro de Joselito Carnaval, que es el duelo de todos. 

El lema del Carnaval de Barranquilla es: Quien lo vive es quien lo disfruta (Quien lo vive, es quien lo goza).
