Mô tả
Malayalam has no word for 'who' in 'the man who came'. Once you see what it does instead, your sentences start to sound grown-up. First, every question word in one place, including the difference between എന്തിന് (purpose) and എന്തുകൊണ്ട് (cause). Then the big structural difference: Malayalam turns the verb into a participle and puts it before the noun (വന്ന ആൾ, the came-person). You learn how to form participles from any tense, how -അത് and -അവൻ / -അവൾ / -അവർ stand in for a missing noun, and why Japanese, Korean, Turkish and Tamil all do the same. Words and phrases in this class: വന്ന ആൾ (vanna aal) – the person who came പാടുന്ന പെൺകുട്ടി (paadunna penkutti) – the girl who sings ഞാൻ വായിച്ച പുസ്തകം (njaan vaayicha pusthakam) – the book I read ഞാൻ കണ്ടത് (njaan kandathu) – what I saw അവൻ പറഞ്ഞത് (avan paranjathu) – what he said നീ ചെയ്തത് (nee cheythathu) – what you did വന്നവൻ (vannavan) – the man who came പാടുന്നവൾ (paadunnaval) – the woman who sings വന്നവർ (vannavar) – the people who came എന്തിന്? (enthinu?) – what for? (purpose) എന്തുകൊണ്ട്? (enthukondu?) – why? (cause) In this class: • All the question words, and purpose vs cause • No relative pronoun: the participle goes in front of the noun • Forming participles from past and present verbs • -അത് and the person endings for a missing noun, plus a full drill Quizzes below.
