“I’ve been reading this book to increase and develop my vocabulary and the story is getting interesting”
I’m not sure if I can use getting or become
“I’ve been reading this book to increase and develop my vocabulary. The story is getting interesting”
You can use either, "getting or becoming."

You can use either getting or becoming. Getting is more informal casual language, and becoming is more formal language but we would not use becoming in this context in casual conversation.
