Hi Zineb,
To get unblocked, you can start a regular writing habit by writing a diary about everything that happens in your day. You can practice more vocabulary and expressions by writing about your feelings on what happened. Another suggestion is to translate the social media posts you've made in your native language into English and post them here for corrections.
If you can find a 'no-brainer' topic that you don't need to think too much to write about, I'm sure that you can see a vast improvement within even a week. Hope this helps! :)
Hi Zineb!
My first and primary language is English. It is a challenge for English writers to break out of set patterns that result in what writers refer to as "writer's block." It is helpful to press past the comfort zone to begin the process. Sometimes, I look through a comprehensive list of synonyms in order to determine how I could have worded a sentence or phrase differently. Poetry and musical lyrics provide me with ideas about constructing words creatively. I must, however, work on my own style.
I have also made friends on italki and we write to each other in our target languages. It's kind of like the old "pen pal" idea. They write in English; I write in Spanish. There is also an Arabic man who exchanges with me by writing in English regularly. I am not learning Arabic but have developed a friendship with him. Of course, he finds it very helpful because I make suggestions to him about English dialogue. In this regard, a native speaker can be very helpful. But, according to italki threads, English speakers are as scarce as hens' teeth.
Take good care...
Hi Zineb
This is just my opinion. I think language is all about INPUT and OUTPUT.
INPUT would be reading and listening, the ideas and vocabulary enters the mind and you make sense of it (also known as passive learning)
OUTPUT would be speaking or writing, the ideas and vocabulary needs to come out of your mind in a structured way. Knowing basic grammar tenses/patterns helps to structure the language coming out (also known as active learning)
I think writer's block could be associated with trying to do OUTPUT (writing) too much without enough INPUT.
One exercise that you could try (that I recommend to my students) is to find a really interesting article about a topic that you like, read a paragraph and understand the ideas and vocabulary and story fully, then take the article away and try and rewrite the ideas of the paragraph in your own words and style, but try and use as many of those new words and expressions that you discovered in the paragraph in your own writing. Try and rewrite the ideas with the best language that you can use. And then go to the next paragraph and do the same. It is just a constant INPUT & OUTPUT activity. This can really improve your writing skills and build your vocabulary because it's more active.
You can even replace this method with speaking. Just read a paragraph and then speak aloud and explain all the ideas of the paragraph to yourself in your own style and expression. You could even record yourself and then listen to the audio afterwards and try and see how many new words and expressions you used.
And you could even watch part of a video and then write or speak about the ideas afterwards.
Anyway, I hope the ideas help Zineb!
