Turkey - Is it safe to travel?

I've heard lots about Turkey and the protests on the news. However Turkey has always been a dream destination for me and many of my family members.

So I was wondering if Turkish people could give us some real information about how safe it is to travel there maybe end of this year. Also if you are not from Turkey but have been warned by your government against visiting, please share. Thanks!
