Differences Between Ser And Estar In Portuguese

A frequent question that comes to me is about the verbs ser and estar. Many students do not understand the uses and the differences between the verb "ser" and "estar" because it is often translated as the verb "to be" in English... there is one word in English for two in Portuguese, no wonder English speaking learners get confused!

Boa sorte colegas!

Chris, in this case, both are acceptable.

What about the verb ficar in regards to location? For example which of the following would be correct?

O restaurante fica na rua Francisco.

O restaurante é na rua Francisco.
