Does the internet connect or isolate people?
Recently, I have been writing essays in English on this theme. It seems interesting to me. Mostly, I hadn't thought a lot about it and the answer was, "Of course, it connects!". (See below) But now I'm not so sure as I was before. On the one hand, the internet can help you make connections with people of all over the world by your interests, and to keep in touch with friends, who went abroad. On the other hand, the internet can isolate people because nowadays many people prefer to communicate by the social networks instead of meeting in reality. What do you think about it?
Your third sentence is a little awkward. I would rephrase it:
Before giving this question much though I would've answered, "Of course, it connects people!"
When we're talking about the internet as a general concept, we must use the article the. When we're talking about a connection to the internet in a specific location, we don't use the article. Example: "Do you have internet on your phone?"
Otherwise, good work! And I agree. I think the internet is a great tool for connecting people, but many people become dependent on the internet as their only means of making connections. It's important not to lose touch with the real world!
