6. Flick: Definition: A quick, sudden movement, especially a light brush or hit, often caused by a sudden jerk of the wrist. As a noun, it can also refer colloquially to a movie. Examples: She flicked a speck of dust off her sleeve. We're going to see a flick at the cinema tonight. 7. Flit: Definition: To move swiftly and lightly, often from one place to another. This term is often used to describe the flight pattern of small birds or insects. Examples: The hummingbird flitted from flower to flower, drinking nectar. She's always flitting around the globe, it's hard to keep track of her. Clarification: While some of these words may seem similar, particularly those relating to movement (flap, flick, flit), each has a distinct meaning. "Flap" refers to a more vigorous, often noisy motion like a bird moving its wings. "Flick" involves a quick, subtle motion, often a brief touch or hit. "Flit" implies a swift, light movement, often bouncing from one place to another. Similarly, "flop" refers to a heavy, loose, and often uncontrolled fall or movement. These differences are mainly due to the intensity, control, and direction of the motion they represent.
