in semantics, what makes 'referent' different from 'reference'?

It was done by a sixth grader to his classmate This afternoon, I've watched a surprising news about a twelve-year old child in Jakarta who hurted his classmate with a knife after he had stolen his friend's mobile phone. His friend, as the owner of the cellphone, told his teacher that his classmate had taken his handphone. Shortly after school was end, the young thief,knowing what he did had been notified to the teacher, took his friend away from home and used the knief he brought from his house to kill his classmate. The poor boy is seriously injured and taken to the hospital by the people living nearby. The thief boy is now arrested by police. Such irony,right?

The gift of music in our life I try to rewrite and simplify the two first paragraphs of Awake! Magazine, August 2011 edition into the one below. If you find mistake and kindly want to correct it or make it better in your own style, please do so. Without music, what would life be? As for me, it would be dull and unappealing. For it reflects human's emotions, it could rejoices and inspires us. It could uplifts or reduces us to tears. Surely, music has power to influence our heart. Why so? James 1:17 "Music is a beautiful gift from God".

mandarin for beginner

I have studied mandarin recently and found difficulties in writing and remembering the hanzi. Do you have some tips to make it easier?

First notebook entry: Introducing myself English is fun! I have a dream of travelling around the world. I also love teaching English to my students. I learn Mandarin recently, one of the reason is because my grandfather was a Chinese. Believe me, you will not find Mandarin interesting until you try it!
