My name is Katla and I am a native speaker of Danish and German. I also taught myself to speak native-level English, Swedish and Dutch, and I have a degree in comparative linguistics, specialising in north-germanic (ie. scandinavian) languages. So I have a few language learning tricks up my sleeve, I can share with you. Outside of teaching Danish here on italki, I am working towards a post-graduate degree in computer science. Every student is different but I always try my best to create a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere in my lessons. My approach to teaching is highly affirmative. This means that I won’t just help you learn Danish, I will also help you build your confidence. So that you can use what you have learned independently, confidently, and creatively with other native speakers. Even though I am a native speaker, I am aware of the fact that the Danish language and especially its pronunciation provides many challenges for language learners and mastering Danish won't happen overnight. I am a community tutor who teaches. This means that I will be more than just a conversation partner, I will also provide materials for us to work with. These include texts and audio recordings suited to your level, discussion questions, images, and exercises. They are designed to help you develop all aspects of your Danish, ie. your speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills, as well as your vocabulary. I also include a little grammar but not so much that it becomes boring. My courses are designed to take you from total beginner to native level. I've been practising Danish with Katla for almost a year and she has really helped me improve, both with my vocab/grammar but most importantly my confidence. She is great at creating a safe space where you don't feel embarrassed to make mistakes. I'd recommend her to anyone who wants to take their Danish to the next level!

Learning with and from Katla is an absolute pleasure. She is super flexible in her approach and can tailor lessons to whatever questions or need I may have. It never gets boring and even grammar feels easy and fun.
