Alex Maddison

Alex is an amazing teacher. Being a native English speaker gives you both the knowledge of what it takes for a Brit to learn Dutch but is also proof that it can be done. His persistence and perseverance is a great support.

Alex is a fantastic teacher. He instantly puts you at ease with his patience and his calm approach. He is friendly and easy to talk to. I think a large part of language learning is self confidence and feeling embarrassed really holds you back. Alex creates an environment where you feel comfortable so that you don’t worry about getting things wrong. I think this is really helping me to move forward with my Dutch. I highly recommend Alex, he’s a great guy.

I really enjoyed learning with my Alex and can honestly say that the lessons have exceeded my expectations. Each class is carefully structured but also flexible, which makes it easy to focus on my individual needs and goals. My teacher is patient, knowledgeable, and always explains things clearly, while also encouraging me to challenge myself. I appreciate the balance between grammar, conversation, and practical exercises, as it allows me to apply what I’ve learned immediately. The atmosphere of the lessons is friendly and motivating, which helps me to stay consistent and make real progress. What I value most is the personal attention and genuine care my teacher shows for my learning journey. I always leave each lesson feeling more confident, inspired, and excited to continue improving. I would highly recommend my teacher to anyone who wants to not only learn the language but also enjoy the process of learning.

I have only had a few lessons with Alex so far, but would already recommend! He is enthusiastic about Dutch, which is geniuely contagious. He is also very friendly and patient making lessons feel relaxed and encouraging. Because he has learned Dutch as an adult, he is able to give advice and explanations that are more relatable than that of a native speaker, who will often not be able to relate or understand certain beginner struggles. As I had requested, our lessons have been conversation-focused, he is able to hold a conversation naturally, which gives me an excellent opportunity to hear Dutch and not have to focus on the direction of the conversation, allowing me to focus. At the same time, he gives me plenty of space to think and try adn form my own responses. Only adding grammar points when needed.

Learning journey with Alex is so entertaining. He is knowledgeable enough to cover from daily conversations to narrative writing. Especially, he always supports me to mull over how to phrase properly in a storytelling. This quest of knowledge is addictive.
