Here is my review after taking many lessons with Aika-sensei: she's the best! I came into our first lesson with some Japanese knowledge, but no real structure or formal learning. After 20 half hour lessons, I find that I am able to understand a lot more spoken Japanese (yes, in anime) and can text with my Japanese friend in Japanese. Aika is very kind and approachable and the lessons are stress free. They are built around Japanese phrases and words that you will actually use. The learning is very conversational. And for the moments where I need some more detailed explanation, it’s no problem because her English is flawless. Most of all, she really goes above and beyond. She sends detailed and personalized notes after each lesson based on what we talked about. Aika is hands down the best Japanese tutor! She treats every lessons with so much attention and care. Our lessons are almost completely in Japanese and it creates a really immersive environment. I love that she writes down words that come up in the lesson that you don't know and then sends you detailed notes afterwards so you don't have to worry about writing every new word down in the lesson yourself and can just focus on practicing! She creates a really comfortable environment where you can practice without any pressure and you can feel free to make mistakes. Highly recommend for anyone who's wanting to step away from textbook Japanese or just want to talk with someone in Japanese, because she is super good for that. I feel like I make improvements every lesson! 5 stars is not enough for her!

I continue to get a lot of value with each lesson with Aika-Sensei, she has helped give direction to my studies and is building on everything learned in previous lessons. I feel more confident speaking Japanese, even when I mess up and I’m excited for my next lesson.
