Born in Tokyo, I am an educator with a solid foundation in multicultural communication and language instruction. I hold teaching licenses for all grade levels in Japan and have earned master's degrees from Waseda University's School of Political Science and Economics and Columbia University's College of the Arts. My career has spanned diverse fields, including education, film analysis (evaluating over 200 films annually), and leadership in non-profit organizations focused on child welfare. Leveraging this interdisciplinary background, I offer comprehensive Japanese language instruction that combines the following elements. I have a rich international perspective, having visited 80 countries I lived in New York for 8 years, so I’m comfortable speaking English. I love movies, anime, and manga, and I can help you learn real Japanese through film— including slang and natural expressions. We can also talk about directors, scenes, and storytelling while improving your Japanese. Lessons are flexible and tailored to your goals. In my current online private lessons, Beginner-level students: work on grammar using Genki and various learning apps, as well as simple kanji quizzes. Intermediate-level students : follow lessons using their preferred textbooks or focus on preparation for the JLPT. Talking with Mook-san for the first time was such a great experience. Even though it was just thirty minutes, she already gave me a clear and thoughtful plan. I’m sure anyone would be impressed by her professionalism and personality, and amazed by how knowledgeable, engaging, open, and dedicated she is. It truly inspired me to continue learning with her in the long run. I feel so lucky to have found mook-san, she's such an amazing teacher. ☺️🙌

Mook-san is an amazing teacher, inspiring and kind. It was my first time using italki and Mook-san was supportive and very patient. She works hard to customise every lesson for me, greatly appreciated. I had not studied Japanese for a decade, but she has helped me stay motivated. Thank you Mook-san! Highly recommended!
