With 30 years of diverse roles—from acting to customer service—I like to think I've become pretty adept at the art of clear and sophisticated communication. PLEASE NOTE: I only teach adults over 18 and I don't teach outside my scheduled hours.
I’m learning Portuguese, so I know how scary using a second language can be. Back in the UK, I had a lot of experience of correcting letters, emails, reports and presentations: even though I have no formal training as a teacher, I can help if you’re working towards exams or looking for a job – or if you’re simply learning English for pleasure. I'm here to help you master the art of conversational English, to gently point out the right words to use, the proper grammar, the correct pronunciation. I'm a community tutor, rather than a professional teacher, which means that my lessons are informal and led by you, the student. We can talk about whatever you like: films, music, TV programmes, books, travel, current affairs, food, you name it – but I might struggle with sport! Or you can pick an online article and read it to me, and I’m happy to help with new and unfamiliar vocabulary, phrasal verbs, idiom, tenses, pronunciation or intonation, and afterwards, we can use the subject of the piece as a starting point for a chat! I can assist you with any written work you have produced, too – I can make suggestions about style and sentence construction, and we can have fun in the process!5.0

It was nice to meet Dave and have an amazing conversation class with him! He is patient, engaging and fun. I've managed to talk about many things for today. He fixed my mistakes in grammar and vocabulary with clear explanation which is good! His teaching style is that he asks me questions and I give a proper answer to it. He explained fewer/less with countable and uncountable nouns and he gave me good vocabulary. That was a great class for today and I hope to see him again soon!
