Duilius

Duilius is an excellent teacher! I was already at a later beginner or early intermediate level when I started with him, but I can tell that I'll be able to go very far with him. He is really - what can I say? - "excellent" just keeps coming to mind. He is totally clearn inhis speaking, and rephrase things if I don't get it the first time, and is very easy-going and stress-free. Perhaps I shouldn't say how good he is because he'll get so many students that I won't be able to study with him anymore! But he has my highest recommendation.

Duilius is an excellent teacher! I have studied Latin for many years, but wanted to improve my speaking skills. We are currently reading and discussing Cicero’s De Natura Deorum in Latin. It’s both challenging and extremely rewarding!

Duilius loves teaching Latin. I can tell that this isn't just a job for him: he wants to teach it and, most importantly, he wants me to learn it. I value that in a teacher. He is genuinely interested in my progress, I see that with each lesson.

optimus magister est Duilius. His command of Latin is thorough and his knowledge of antiquity is impressive. He is willing to share this knowledge with you patiently and using the best method available to us to learn Latin (the direct method). There are few tutors that can teach you as well as he can. I've learned a lot from him in a short time.

I continue to be a big advocate for Duilius (and Latin). He's a very comfotable, easy-going teacher. He's as patient and knowledgeable as you'd want a teacher to be. And now, a quick plug for Latin (and Latin with Duilius): If you look it up, you'll see lots of benefits from studying Latin. Let me tell you, it lives up to the hype. It teaches precision in words and thinking, humility, and patience. And who doesn't need more of those things nowadays?

I have written much about how Duilius is a great Latin teacher. These comments are more about the structure of his class for those wanting such information. When the session first starts, Duilius warms me up with some chatting in easy Latin. We then turn to the book Familia Romana. I will pick up reading where we left off. Sometimes he'll correct my pronunciation of a word in the middle of a paragraph. Other times, he may wait until of the paragraph(s), when he'll stop me and we'll look more closely at some hidden grammar points in the paragraph. I take a lot of notes because he points out things that (1) a beginner wouldn't know and (2) aren't explained in the text's margins or at the end of the chapter. (So glad I have a Latin tutor!) Sometimes I will read one person's part and Duilius will read the other. Other times, we will set the text aside and look at his own materials to go more in depth into a grammatical topic. Mind you, he's explaining in Latin the whole time.
