Maria camila Arocha

Maria is a great language partner because she brings energy and interest to every lesson. With her help I was able to begin talking, at first haltingly, entirely in Spanish from Day 1 as a level A2 student, and in five 45-minute lessons over a month I saw noticeable improvement. She is an excellent conversationalist, and easily moves between high-level conversational topics and low level grammar topics as needed without breaking the flow of conversation. I use two teachers on iTalki; Miguel to specifically to help me with accent and hardcore grammar issues, and Maria to practice actually talking (although both teachers can handle both areas well). Maria also gives me plenty of resources to use on my own time. Now, one month later, I am much better prepared for my trip to Columbia and Peru. Thanks, Maria!

Maria was my first instructor on iTalki, and I admit that I found her not through diligent research, but because she was available for an instant lesson at a time block that had become suddenly available to me. I am glad that I found her; she is an excellent conversation partner; she understands when to correct my halting A2/B1 Spanish, and when to let it flow. I have had several trial lessons with others, but I am booking a series with Maria because her teaching style is exactly what I need right now: unstructured, conversational practice. I can learn grammar rules and vocabulary on my own, but conversational Spanish requires a good conversational partner, and that is what Maria provides.

Maria quickly grasped exactly what I was capable of and what I needed to improve upon. Her perfect fluency in English made it easy to switch between Spanish-only and English-help modes. She was encouraging and supportive; a great teacher. This was my first experience on the iTalki platform; had I done it again, I think I would have planned a 45 minute lesson vs. a 30 minute lesson since 30 minutes is a bit rushed.
