In Finnish, for instance, spoken language can be quite different from the formal version. I'm an empathetic and patient teacher, and I can easily adjust my speaking pace and style to suit any level. My lessons are relaxed and supportive, creating a safe space for learning. I'm always happy to tailor the lessons to each student's individual needs.

I have two University degrees and I have been teaching finnish and swedish both for beginners and business people. I have also worked as a translator. The most challenging mission was in Monaco, where very talented multilingual people wanted to learn swedish and finnish and learn it fast, because they did business with Scandinavian countries.

As a teacher I am encouraging, and try to activate my students to use as much Finnish as possible. People usually tell me they can be themselves in my company. This no stress state helps them to express themselves better in Finnish as the brain has no reason to activate the sympathetic nervous system (fight/flight/freeze response) which would compromise higher brain functions. I have about 2000 hours of teaching experience, mostly online but also face to face.

As soon as you know three words, I’ll ask you to put them into a sentence. With me you won’t be ‘taught’ per se, you will be invited to learn by doing, to try things out, and to accumulate competence upon what you already know. My students quickly learn to ask me ‘can I say…? (voinks mä sanoa…?)’ followed by something they have just formulated. Before long, they start to create perfectly applicable and natural sounding Finnish sentences (which can often be short and make absolutely no sense when translated to English) by applying Finnish the same way Finns do.
