I usually spend the first lesson getting to know the student, laying out their goals and defining a general plan. Language mentor, language learner – let's learn together! I'm a very patient, agreeable person and I also try to be flexible in adapting my methods to fit the student's aims and learning style. I see myself more of a mentor than a teacher. My job is to facilitate learning in any way that I can. I'm very aware of how challenging and overwhelming it can be to learn a language, especially at the beginning. Reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, dialects, slang, differences between written and spoken usage – there is so much to learn! One of my main priorities is trying not to overwhelm the student by introducing too much new information all at once. Learning a language takes time. No need to rush. We'll get there!
