It was 800m run that made me realize the truth as well as happiness of DEFERRED GRATIFICATION! I had a physical exercise test of 800m run in my junior high. To run faster within a limited time, I not only had to spare much time and effort to build up strength, but I also had to make a strategy to save my energy for the end of the race. So in the first 400m, I ran in the middle of the group instead of being hurried to take the lead. Although some students caught up with me when we ran 600m, I kept breathing steadily and accelerated methodically. At the rest of 200m, I speeded up as fast as I could. Eventually, I was the fourth to finish the run in my group in 3'06'' which was my best score! It seemed to happen in an instant, but the joy as well as wisdom will remain fresh in my memory.

The rain keeps drumming on the window today, a constant reminder of yesterday's close call. While I was chilling at music class, real trouble hit close to home. Apparently, a hailstorm erupted – the first I can remember here! Fist-sized ice chunks rained down, wrecking countless cars in its path. News reports later confirmed casualties, followed by a tornado striking the same area. "What on earth! People died due to a weather in summer?” I thought, glued to the screen, the news reports sending chills down my spine. If we'd left music class just an hour later...well, let's just say our trusty Beetle wouldn't make it. We definitely dodged a bullet yesterday! (By the way, later on I learned my best friend’s car was ruined pretty bad. Luckily they weren’t in the car, so no one got hurt.)
