Growing up in a multilingual environment and later becoming fluent in English as a foreign language gave me first-hand experience of what it means to learn, practise, and live in different languages. Because of this, I understand many of the challenges language learners face and can offer practical support, encouragement, and effective learning strategies. For several years, I was actively involved in a German-speaking community group that brought together learners and native speakers for weekly conversation practice. There, I regularly supported learners, answered language questions, explained vocabulary and grammar, and helped create a welcoming environment for people building confidence in German. I hope I can help people here almost as much as I myself have been helped. Over the years, I have taught students of many different levels — from complete beginners to advanced learners — including Chinese students and native speakers preparing for their Abitur (Germany) or Matura (Austria) exams. These exams are vaguely comparable to the Chinese 高考 or British A-Levels. In my classes, I try to go beyond mere memorisation and help students develop a natural understanding of the language. Many grammatical rules make far more sense once one understands the distinctions they express in everyday speech. This is also the reason for my nickname, MrSemantic. I teach German with a clear standard accent (Hochdeutsch) and on a high formal level that can serve students well in professional and academic contexts.
