Today, after class, I went to the gym with a friend. My friend knows a lot about weight training and taught me all sorts of things. I had a really rewarding time. Afterward, we went out to eat together and talked about all kinds of things. It was a lot of fun.

The letters that go silent (and why it's not your fault) English spelling lies to you. Some letters just sit there on the page and make no sound at all — and the words look harder than they sound. There are three easy patterns to spot: At the start of a word 
- I know the answer. You dialled the wrong number. At the end of a word 
- Climb the stairs. No doubt about it. The lazy "l" — it vanishes before certain sounds.
- Let's go for a quiet walk. I'll talk to you later. Stay calm. Try this: say "I know the answer, no doubt about it" out loud. How many silent letters can you hear disappearing?

Yesterday, I had a part-time job. There were not many new staff, so it was easy to work because everyone was experienced. However, a group of 39 customers came, and after that, it became a little busy. Also, two staff members finished work at 10 p.m. They were working with me in the hall, so I was sad to see them leave. I can do more things now, like working at the reception and handling the cashier, but I still need to work more efficiently. I also complain too quickly sometimes. I want to look around more carefully and think about what I should do before I act.
