Thats a good answer above, all the different parts of England have different accents, for example the London cockney accent is very different from the Manchester or Yorkshire accent. Just to add to the above, avert is almost always used when speaking about your eyes and looking away. Its very rare to hear it used in other situations. Avert is physically doing something like, moving your eyes to look away or turning your car sharply so you don't drive into another car. Avoid is the result of this physical action; so you would avert your eyes to avoid looking at something. Using avert except from talking about your eyes is rare, instead we would say I swerved to avoid hitting the car I took a different route to avoid the traffic. You use 'how' and 'what' in different context. 'How' is used to enquire about in the way or manner for example; How does the car work? or How would I get to the shop? What is used when requesting specific information or used to specify a person for example; What is she doing? or What does the shop sell? Also; 'think' and 'suppose' are similar in there meaning although 'suppose' is used more when the person is not sure or is guessing. What do you think? What do you suppose? How do you think? How do you suppose? You can use any of the above to ask a question, the key word is 'What' and 'How' if you get this wrong the sentence will not sound right. They are very much the same so it would depend on how you are going to use the language, were you plan on working or travelling to. But to be honest I don't see much benefit of one over the other in terms of speech. They only really differ in terms of spelling, such as colour (uk) and color (usa)

It depends on whether you want to concentrate on learning to read and write english or speak it. Instant messaging is obviously the choice for learning to write, skype or similar is better for learning to speak.

Take your time answering the questions and speak slowly and clearly. They will probably ask you some more difficult questions about your experience and personality. Such as; What makes you different from the other applicants? Why should you be giving the space over other students? Were do you see yourself in 5 years? What could you bring to the university? These are obviously not extensive but are very tricky to answer on the spot if you have not thought about the answer before. Try not to blabber or repeat yourself. Be confident. Good luck! Paul
