Not long ago, I visited a local museum with the theme of VISION AND GAZE. It was about oil portraits collected in Tokyo Fuji Art Museum. Every painting from the Classical period was drawn exquisitely as well as elegantly in soft colours, such as ultramarine, olive green and so forth. However, the paintings from the Roccoco period were much more thick and heavy in colours, which made it dizzy to watch. In the duration of the visit, I heard some people making a comparison between oil paintings and Chinese ink paintings. From my point of view, both of them are unique as well as charming. While oil paintings are much more colourful, Chinese ink paintings are profoundly subtle. At the sametime, implying the unique meaning in the specific image is the similarity they show. I not only admired the beauty of oil paintings, but also had a deep insight into the nature of art which is more than a depiction but the creativity of humanity.
