I hope I can help people here almost as much as I myself have been helped. Over the years, I have taught students of many different levels — from complete beginners to advanced learners — including Chinese students and native speakers preparing for their Abitur (Germany) or Matura (Austria) exams. These exams are vaguely comparable to the Chinese 高考 or British A-Levels. In my classes, I try to go beyond mere memorisation and help students develop a natural understanding of the language. Many grammatical rules make far more sense once one understands the distinctions they express in everyday speech. This is also the reason for my nickname, MrSemantic.
