In this story, an aeroplane named Seven is using a secret energy source. But the assistant engineer might know what it is. This is Part 3 of 5. It was 12:00pm and Seven was playing cards with Zack the pilot in their hangar. Seven picked up a few cards and slammed five down on the table. “Once again, I’m winning, Zack. When will you ever learn? You can’t beat me—Hah!” Zack, looking frustrated, said, “Next time I’ll beat you. I’m going to practice online. You’ll see. Next time.” Tobee arrived for work and went straight to the office. He noticed the security camera system was blinking, alerting some kind of action needed. Tobee took care of it and turned to exit the office. But what was this? In front of him there were several huge barrels labelled ‘7-Up’. Tobee thought that it was illegal to use 7-Up. He understood it was a cheaper fuel source, but he believed it wasn’t worth the risk. Tobee believed in the government’s decision to ban 7-Up as a fuel source. Tobee stepped out into the main hangar and confronted Zack. “Boss? There are seven giant barrels of 7-Up in the office. Have you been giving it to Seven? You know that’s illegal, right? Why are you doing this? You’re risking your entire business.” Zack looked undeniably suspicious and worried. He struggled to speak confidently and said, “Oh that… that’s left over from my son’s 14th birthday party last week. Want some?” Tobee said, “Uh… okay. But… I’m a bit… hurt that you didn’t invite me…” Zack laughed nervously. “Yes… I only just invited family and friends… Sorry, Tobee. Maybe next time. Uhh, feel free to take some home if you want.” As Tobee left the main hangar, Seven whispered to Zack, “Phew, that was a close one. Thankfully he bought it.” Tobee didn’t believe Zack’s improvised story, but he tried to play along. He didn’t want Zack catching onto him. Tobee thought that he’d discover the truth for himself.

In this story, a woodpecker named George is the watchman for a society of animals. But what happens when he starts to lose his confidence? This is Part 1 of 6. Oh no, it’s happening… I can feel it. They’re coming... George swooped down from his treetop lookout and glided over a harmonious society of diverse forest animals. He trumpeted an alarming bird sound to warn of an incoming attack. All the animals immediately scattered to their hiding places. George darted for the animal leaders’ headquarters. Zipping into the center of the gathering, almost tumbling over, George the Woodpecker announced, “Code Red!” The animal leaders sprang into action to execute their emergency plan. Carlos the Bear was the first to charge out. It’s his role to meet the invaders head on. Confronting them at the perimeter of the animal territory, he saw them holding chainsaws, swords and knives. The terrifying brown bear let out an incredible roar to keep them back. However, as they had deadly weapons, the arrogant invaders kept inching closer and closer. Meanwhile, Julian the Beaver was holding onto Mary the Dear’s back as they raced through the forest. Going around the side and meeting the intruders from behind, the other two animal leaders encountered delimbers, stump grinders and log loaders. These deforesting machines are devastating for animal habitats. Working in coordination, they cut down trees, rip out the roots and stack the lumber package, ready for transport. Julian snuck into the heart of the murderous machinery and interfered with their engines. Because of his robust and tough teeth, he chewed through vital wires, creating malfunctions. With his role complete, he jumped back on Mary and they got away. With the massive machines now needing repairs, the invaders retreated back to their logging station. Back at the headquarters, Carlos, Mary, Julian and George, the trusted guardians of the forest, gathered together to evaluate their response to the invaders.

Examples of a range of more advanced, more formal, or more descriptive words and phrases that you can use as an alternative for "good"

Show notes with examples: 1. Finish up “finish” and “finish up” are not very different. A native speaker will likely prefer to use the phrasal verb, though. Martha finished up her bachelor degree last year and has been working since then. You finish up the dishes while I deal with the garbage. Others that mean "finish up": wrap up, wind up The CEO wrapped up the meeting before 4pm so that she could send her employees home early. It was Friday! Hey, can you wind the meeting up early today? I need to go home! 2. Another phrasal verb that uses “up” is “break up.” There are at least three main meanings for this phrasal verb. 1) “Break up” can mean to break into multiple pieces. Here are two examples: Can you break up that chocolate bar so we can share it? The ice on the river is breaking up because the sun is shining. 2) “Break up” can mean “to end a relationship.” When two people break up, that’s it, their relationship is over—no more marriage or dating. Sheila broke up with Ted because he never did the dishes. 3) another meaning of “break up” is about video or audio calls. When there is a lag, and the call freezes repeatedly, we can say it (or the other person) is breaking up. For example, Damien, you’re breaking up. Call me back when you’re out of the mountains. 3. Another fun phrasal verb is to “shake things up.” Things is usually the object of this phrasal verb. This basically means to try something new, to do something differently than usual. Consider these examples to hear how this works: We have eaten the same food every night for the last week. Let’s shake things up—I’m ordering sushi burritos. Mary and Alex were very bored of retirement and decided to shake things up by going skydiving.
